Excavation Competent Person
This course is designed to enable participants to identify the many hazards associated with excavations as required by 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P. Excavation work is among the most dangerous work out of all construction activities. Because of this, excavations and the surrounding areas must be inspected at the beginning of every shift by an Excavation Competent Person to ensure that the work area is safe. We go to great lengths to ensure that participants that take this class understand these hazards and their role in the safety of everyone working around these excavations.
Topics Covered:
Each participant is asked to bring a sample of soil from his/her jobsite to aid in soil analysis demonstrations. Each participant will receive a complimentary copy of the OSHA Standards for Construction Pocketbook for future reference.
This is a competency based class. Passing exam score is 80%.
This training cannot designate a participant as an "Excavation Competent Person". That must be done by the employer. However, this training does give the participant the tools needed to identify the hazards associated with excavations and a certificate that the participant received training required by the OSHA 1926 Excavation Standard.
